2.3 % Grew in China’s Economy

China’s economy recovered to pre-pandemic growth rates in the fourth quarter, propelling it to a stronger than expected full-year expansion of 2.3% and making it the only major one to avoid contraction.  Gross domestic product climbed 6.5% in the final quarter from a year earlier, fueled by stronger-than-expected industrial output, the statistics bureau said Monday.   Covid-19, which has ravaged the world economy, first emerged in central China in late 2019. But the world's second-largest economy also became the first to bounce back after imposing strict lockdowns and virus control measures. It is expected to be the only major world economy clocking positive 2020 growth. In the last three months of 2020, China's economic rebound continued with a better-than-expected 6.5 percent growth on-year, a sustained improvement since the second quarter. This brings it back to a pre-pandemic trajectory, although full-year 2020 growth is still its worst performance since 1976, when the ec

The first Presidential debate 2020

Assumptions before the start of the debate:

1. President would be looking to be on an attacking front throughout the debate and make personal comments on Joe Biden. He would most likely comment on Biden’s past and on his views towards China.
2.Joe Biden on the other hand has in a way been preparing since 1987 and will most likely be defensive but will make subtle attacks on Trump on some fronts here and there.

Expectation of the impact of this debate:

This debate will not be able to change the common perspective of both candidates over night. Trump will most likely be looking for switching to front foot and make the debate more about Biden’s shortcomings rather than his own failures and challenges.
Facts about the debate:

1.Trump interrupted Joe Biden 73 times during the course of the debate.
2.The moderator Chris Wallace asked Trump to stop interrupting 25 times.
3.Surprisingly, Trump spoke less than Joe Biden at 38 minutes compared to Biden’s 43 minutes.
4.The longest segment in the debate was on the topic of Coronavirus .

What exactly happened

The first topic of discussion in the debate was Supreme Court and Trump was allowed to speak first. The discussion was to be done on the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett as the Senate.
Trump views: According to him, “A top-top academic and good in all ways person” has been nominated for the senate and she will be perfect for the position of Senate. He also said that since republicans won the elections, they have the right to choose the senate and there is no point to further debate on the topic.
Bidens’s views: Biden was suggesting that “ the election for judge should be done with the presidential election so that the people have a right to put their viewpoints.” He was also resentful on the views of Amy Barrett over the retraction of the Affordable Care Act and said “the retraction of Affordable Care Act will be detrimental to USA’s healthcare system.”

Trump however points out the retraction will help in making the market more competitive by allowing the private companies to compete in the market. He also said that the Democrats are trying to take a socialist approach which will be detrimental to Trump’s Free Market approach. However, Biden rectified this by saying that private insurances will be continued.
The second topic was health
Subtopic: Obama Care which is basically a law enacted to ensure that all Americans have access to affordable health care.
Point to discuss: the Trump government has repeatedly emphasized on the abrogation of Obama Care but has failed to come up with a better plan.
According to Trump, the republicans plan is to bring down prices of drugs by procuring them from other countries and diversifying the supply chain. He also claims that his government has made the Obama Care better by removing the individual mandate.
Biden’s idea of Medicaid will provide the poor with free healthcare but will not eliminate the private agencies in healthcare industry which has been called by Trump as a step in the greater aim of Democrats to supposedly socialize healthcare.
The next topic of discussion and the longest segment of the debate was Coronavirus.
USA has had a total exceeding 7 million COVID+ cases and more than 200000 deaths which is the highest in the world.
Now, Joe Biden was adamant in saying that Trump has no plan for the repercussions resulting from the pandemic and is only focusing on how it will affect the market and subsequently his own company. Biden says that the country’s population has faced a really detrimental effect on mental health due to the loss of closed ones and how many people have been left without jobs, without their parents or without their friends due to the incessant carelessness of this government. The government which has failed the same people who voted for it. He also emphasized on the fact that it is too early to open the country as the vaccine is still in development and it could be till mid 2021 for the availability of vaccine. Joe Biden was also saying that Trump refuses to affirm the statements of those scientists who aren’t saying the same thing as him.

Biden also talks about the importance of masks and how just wearing masks will help reduce the cases by a million.

The major takeaway from Biden’s views on the issue of Coronavirus is that the government should be providing incentives and help the people who have suffered losses both materially and mentally during such hard times. He also emphasized that the government should be careful in it’s process of opening up the country and not rush it’s decisions as it could be fatal for the population.
Trump on the other hand was quite focused on the fast reopening of country and recovery of the economy and market. He was also pointing out that Joe Biden was against the decision of countrywide lockdown during march which supposedly helped the nation reduce the possible number of COVID patients. Trump also said that the economy was recovering at a much faster rate than expected and USA could see a V shaped recovery whereas Joe Biden says it’s most likely to be a K-shaped recovery. Now Trump has also stated that the vaccine could be available till the end of this year according to the big pharma companies like Johnson&Johnson. Trump had however given more importance to the statement made by Biden than his own failure in managing the pandemic.
However he seemed confident on making the vaccine available by the end of this year and also said that the military was logistically fully prepared for supplying it.
A few things to note on this particular topic is that the US economy is recovering at a good rate but there has been little change in the rate of increase in COVID tally. Trump’s promise of delivering the vaccine till the end of this year has little to support it as he had also promised earlier this year that there will be a vaccine till the end of September, this was also pointed out by Biden as he said that Trump only makes false promises to support his mission of getting votes. Biden was correct in pointing out that Trump has been suppressing the views of scientists who have spoke in contrast to the points made by him.
The end topics of the debate were on the issue of racism and law and order in the country.
One of the most controversial statements in the debate was said by Trump when asked what his opinion about the white supremacist group “the Proud Boys” , Trump told them to “stand down and stand by” which is seen by many as a threat to people going to polling booth and is also showing the racist face of Donald Trump and how he doesn’t speak against the white supremacist groups around the country.
Joe Biden pointed out that there were many peaceful protests that were forcefully stopped by the use of army and police. He also spoke on the importance of defunding the police and army and how higher power to police officers has seen an increase in offences by the police officers. Now there was also questions raised on the retraction of racist sentiment training and trump responded to it by saying that it was spreading hate against the country.
Now the first presidential debate was decremental to the global image of USA as it showed the immature nature of president Trump as he repeatedly interrupted during the whole debate and made some really controversial statements during the course of the debate. Now this debate can stir up a round of criticisms on trump. Biden on the other hand was making correct statements and was a lot calmer than Trump in making his point.
This debate also shows that there should be strict rules in the course of the debate and how the discussions should be held. The moderator was good in his way but was unable to control Trump who was seen a lot impatient.
